RECORD KEEPING

Record keeping is important. We have a simple process of applying identifiers to our animals. We use these to create pairing numbers during breeding season and to help our customers locate parental info when reaching out. Imagine a breeder who keeps all of their breeders records FOREVER so you can know exactly what you’re buying. Imagine you care more 3 years from now than you did when you bought the animal. Happens all the time. We got you! Describing animals is subjective most times as long as hets are disclosed you’re on the right track.

Our legend is broken down here for anyone who wants to reference or use it. This photo is an example of how we label specific morphs and identify them in the husbandry pro app.

PAIRING #’s

During breeding season each female will be assigned a pairing number in reference to their respective sire.  The pairing numbers have a dash and then a counter number if the male is used with multiple females in a breeding season.

Below are a few examples of pairing male Firebold #4 in a holdback morph series (FB04) to 3 different morphs. The pairing number is important for record keeping and can change each year. Simply notate the identifiers of each parent w/ the offspring that you create. If it is NOT clear, the 3 females below are being paired to the exact same male. I will also apply a forward slash and the year this female was paired to this male’s identifier.

I keep the records of each females previous years pairing number in the files of the female and the male she was paired to. This is how I never lose records. They are in many locations.

OFFSPRING IDENTIFIERS

These are easy as they follow the SIRE exactly like a last name with a counter number for each hatchling. If you have any questions beyond this point, feel free to reach out.

The offspring identifier begins with the ID of the SIRE (FB04). The DAME’s counter number is also present after the dash (FB04-1). The offspring will have a number sign followed by their own counter number (FB04-1 #7). The final digits are the year that the animal hatched (FB04-1 #7/22). This comes in handy when you use the SIRE again the following year.

HOLDBACK ID’s

This section is simple. Let’s say that you are going to holdback 1 of the animals only from the 9 produced above in the example. You chose hatchling #2 from the Firebold x Firebold pairing to the first female the FB04 was paired to. The hatchling identifier is FB04-1 #2/22. You would simply change the identifier to align with the rotation of the morph in question and put it in line with its gender. In this example the offspring would be a Firebold.

Example:

Male: if you have 4 Firebold males currently (not for sale breeder animals) and this holdback would make #5, you assign your holdback FB05.

Female: if you have 6 Firebold females currently (not for sale breeder animals) and this holdback would make #7, you assign your hold back 07FB.

YOU SEE! SIMPLE! NOW GO TRY IT OUT FOR YOURSELF.
